GERMANY / Saxony / Upper Lusatia / Bautzen / At Innere Lauenstrasse, superb Baroque houses line up next to each other. Yellow city hall in pilaster architecture has three clocks, the lowest of them is a sundial. According to the draft of Johann Christoph von Naumann, the municipal building at main market was reconstructed from 1729 until 1732. Behind it lies the St. Peter's Cathedral in late Gothic style, the largest and oldest ecumenical church in Germany. Since 1524, the sacral building has been used by Protestants and Catholics.
Bautzen, the 'city of towers' is located on the Spree River and the centre of the Sorbs, a West-Slavic people and a recognised national minority.
